Still Playing Simon Says?

December 7, 2014 in Jim's Journal

I’m sure that you, like me, know someone who’s doing something because, as they put it in their own words, “Everybody else is doing it.”  If that wasn’t the motivating factor maybe these popular refrains were, “He said,” “She said,” or “They said.”  Last week when we were on our Personal Power Cruise, Royal Caribbean planned to make stops.  The goal was to spend the entire day at each location.  When it was time to leave the ship to visit Nassau (the Bahamas) the extremely long departing line formed quickly.  During dinner that evening I spent time talking to Suzie Smith (one of the leaders of the famous Jim Smith organization, a group whose cool membership criteria is that your name be Jim Smith; she was married to a Jim) and I asked her about some of her previous cruise experiences.  She said that one of the best times she had was when her and Jim stayed on the ship after everyone else went ashore to visit the island.  “We had the entire ship to ourselves that day Jim and I had a wonderful time.”  I smiled and thought to myself, “Yes, dancing to your own beat can be a lot of fun.”  How about you?  Are you still doing what they said?  Are you still waiting for your analytics to add up?  Do you still need more proof?  Are you still waiting for someone else to go first?  Not me!  Being the first, or the only, can be extremely rewarding!
