Don’t Underestimate the Power of the Review!

November 18, 2014 in Jim's Journal

When we go to church, we are consistently reminded of things we learned a long time ago.  When we visit our doctor, we’re reminded of things we already know.  And, when we meet one-on-one with our manager or boss, we probably hear a lot of the same things.  And each time, although we’ve heard it before, we learn something new.  The same can be said for our workshops and training sessions.  In one of my workshops last week I had people who had taken my course at least two times previously.  One even mentioned that he had first been JIMPACTed in 2003 when he became a district sales manager.  They were all looking forward to getting new stuff.  And, I obliged.  I gave them something old and something knew, something borrowed and a number of reviews.  No one was disappointed.  As trainers we have to use more creative methods to review and revisit our content.  Saying, “Let’s review,” is a sure-fire way to get them to check Facebook, emails, texts or want to take a selfie.  We have to get them to participate in reviews where they don’t realize they’re reviewing the content.  Use more stories, activities and visual aids to get started.  Sprinkle in some study groups and learning partners.  Add competition and practice.  Remember, just because it was said doesn’t mean it stayed in their head.

We provide the most transformational and empowering tools and experiences that challenge people to live and perform OUT LOUD!
