Jim’s Journal: You Gotta’ Love It!

August 4, 2014 in Jim's Journal

On Saturday I watched the National Football League (NFL) Hall of Fame inductions.  It’s can’t-miss television for me every year.  Watching the retired warriors well-up with tears of joy as they don their gold jacket, then emotionally and humbly pay tribute to all those who played pivotal roles in their life, is very moving.  It becomes a tissue-issue for me, too.  Many of them offer the same sentiment during their acceptance speech in that they didn’t play the game to get inducted into the Hall of Fame.  They didn’t play for the money.  And they didn’t play for the recognition.  They played football simply because they loved the game.  How many of us can say that we love what we do?  I think many of us simply chase money and recognition.  Many seek pats on the back and notoriety more than Nicki Minaj seeks photo-ops.  Our focus is not on honing our craft, or loving what we do, it’s on getting that next promotion (or being congratulated on Facebook, LinkedIn or Twitter).  Yes, NFL players are blessed with tremendous talent – and so are we!  Get rid of that job and go find your joy!  Your Hall of Fame is waiting for you.
