Jim’s Journal: You Have the Recipe but Do You Have the Right Ingredients?

February 6, 2014 in Jim's Journal

I’ve been writing Jim’s Journal for the past 11 months, non stop.  I’ve been speaking, consulting, training and coaching since 1988.  I’ve written three books, co-authored another and have had articles published in several publications.  In essence, I have a ton of experience writing and sharing recipes for success and personal empowerment.  What I’m seeing more and more, though, is that a person can have the recipe for success, but without the right ingredients, the recipe is worthless.  The “right” ingredients include, but are not limited to, fearlessness, faith, courage, creativity, self-awareness, resiliency, enthusiasm and a no excuses-whatever-it-takes-attitude.  Recipes without ingredients are akin to smartphones without good batteries.  If I had a penny for every time I heard a person say, “I know, I know, I’m working on it,” during a coaching session or training class, I could to buy courtside tickets to the Nets games and sit next to Jay Z and Beyonce.  “I’m working on it” is synonymous with “I’m full of excuses.”  Beginning today take out your recipe, find some quality cookware and pour in the “right” ingredients.  It’s time to cook up some success!
