Jim’s Journal: Is What’s In Your Window In Your Store?

January 28, 2014 in Jim's Journal

Have you ever gone shopping only to be disappointed when you learned that the items that were advertised in the window were not in the store?  How deflating!  Why did the store owners put the shirt, dress, coat, shoes and the like, in the window, when they knew that they didn’t have any more hanging on the racks or resting on the shelves inside?  You know where I’m going with this, right?  How many people do you know who do this?  They purport to be something that they are not.  They lead you to believe that they are capable of doing something and when you get closer to them (or spend additional time with them) you realize that what’s in their window is not in their store.  I know you’ve heard the statement, “Fake it until you make it.”  I’d be careful with that.  Faking it could lead to failure.  Be transparent.  Be vulnerable.  Be candid.  Don’t live a PhotoShopped life!
