Jim’s Journal: When Someone Shows You Who They Are, Believe Them!

June 30, 2013 in Jim's Journal

Remember the Charles M. Schulz ‘Peanuts’ characters: Charlie Brown and Lucy? Do you remember their football experiences? Lucy would get down on one knee, place the football under her index finger (NFL place kicker holder-style), then encourage Charlie Brown to come kick it, vowing not to move the ball. Each time Charlie attempted to kick the football, Lucy would move it and Charlie would fall down. This happened every time! Each time before his failed attempt, Charlie would contemplate whether Lucy would keep her word of not moving the ball, thinking long and hard whether this attempt would be different from the previous tries. Each time Lucy was consistent; she broke her promise, moved the ball and Charlie would end up on his back in frustration. Who’s your ‘Lucy’? Who do you keep putting your faith in, knowing full well that this person is not going to come through? How many more chances are you going to give them? When someone shows you who they are – believe them, Charlie Brown!
